  • Moo in Sarasota

Well - I'm back in Sarasota for another medical conference...  this one is on a Cardiology review - remembering things like 'hokum' (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which isn't often obstructive actually) and that I forget to screen men 65-74 who have smoked for AAA!

It's an interesting mix of people, about 70 - 80 registered - and a few coming all the way from the Philippines, Haiti, and Iceland!  We get this little audience response (anonymous) keypad, so that the speakers can ask a few pre-test and post-test questions to see how we do.  Only about 35-40 people answer.  They put up the graphs right after the post-test questions, so we can see how we 'learned' through the talk...  and it looks like most of us learn, but not all!  (a little scary actually...)

So today, my brother, SIL, and niece went to the Mote Marine Lab and Aquarium...  here are some pics.  Too bad Adia's scared of the scuba guys in the big tanks, so we couldn't get a good look at the massive manatees....

And of course, we're eating well as usual!  We're heading back to our favorite places...  the Broken Egg, Columbia Restaurant, and tried Captain Curt's for seafood this time.

So today was Match Day for fellowships....the day when young aspiring docs find out where their next stage of training will be. I found out today that I'll be staying in DC for pulmonary/critical care medicine. We are really happy! Woo hoo!

  • Bernie got home a little earlier than usual today, so we ventured out to Greenbelt Park and hiked the Dogwood trail.  All these years, and I don't think I'd ever been to this park...  but so close by!

What a beautiful day it was!  and instead of heading back home to eat some leftovers...  we drove up to Mimi's Cafe!  I went for the first time out in California to this French-inspired place for brunch...  was yummy!  and dinner was really good too!  their muffins/baked goods are excellent!   I guess that's another thing we have closer to our side of things!  haha

  • So Mom and Dad Kim have been staying here in beautiful Laurel with us for a week.  It actually went by rather quickly, and now they're all ready to head off to New York to meet B's brother...

They came from Korea, so it was mostly sleeping and eating   we had korean food and whole wheat tofu pancakes and zucchini bread and Bob Evans...  yum!  haha

We found a nice place in Columbia - The King's Contrivance where we had some nice lamb chops and scallops and veal!

Saturday, we tried to head out to the Andrews AFB for the Air Show, but after we parked at FedEx and started walking to the line to get onto the shuttle...  we realized way before we got to the end of the line, that it would take at least an hour to get there and turned right back and went to lunch instead.  So many people!  Next time we'll have to head out early.

Well, we had a good week and hopefully Mom and Dad Kim can visit more often!

  • We ended our two week national escapade with camping in Southern Maryland with our small group...  Well, we PLANNED to go camping - tents and all, but I suppose it turned into a *weekend getaway* in a duplex cabin.  Thanks to preciouslambs, we hooked up with fully furnished cabins: microwave, sleeper sofas, bathroom with shower, even cable tv!  haha.  overall, with the rain and anti-campers, it worked out for everyone.

we ended up taking a walk down the beach and pier, played monopoly, and mini-golf.   we did have a campfire, though and sang some songs...  it was fun!
