  • I
    AM
    LEGEND

is the most suspenseful movie I can remember watching...  I'm not into horror movies; but I like action and drama, even all the war movies are ok with me.  I'm not one to react by screaming when I see a rodent, or when a small lizard drops on my arm and crawls thru my shirt in the Philippines...  I'm not particularly squeamish at the sight of blood or when patients show me the mucus they saved,
and have learned to stay as calm and collected as can be...

but I was hanging on to Bernie, wiping my sweaty palms on his sleeve...
and actually jumped a few times (and screamed once or twice too)
I think it took an hour at home to get my heart rate back to normal...

    (sigh)   WOOHEE!

B has his own theory of the movie...

all in all Will Smith is great as usual
and it was definitely worth 10 bucks to see that on the big screen!

    EDIT:

(B writing) Yeah, it was pretty intense. I think that Will Smith's character is a Christ figure in his goal to heal the human race. If you think it all the way through, it works.

  • getting so lazy about posting.....

December 7th...  B's holiday party tonight - but he's on call, so I have to drive up to meet him; he gets someone to cover for him; we go to the party then he goes back to work and I'll drive back home alone...  same thing happened last year...  ah well!

then there's the praise team Christmas party tomorrow and church's Christmas banquet Sunday...

at work, we're having a potluck lunch on Tuesday at Takoma Park, then my Silver Spring coworkers decided to have our own on Thursday and then we have our organization holiday party/afternoon on Friday...

woohee!  all I can say is that I'm sad    we're missing the Kim reunion in Cali but excited   to see the Changs for New Years...

  • so moo and boo had a cozy little thanksgiving dinner...  boo was post call, so came home around 1:30 pm; moo had kept herself busy by cooking up a little storm - so we had our feast for lunch, so boo could go catch up on those zzzz's.

then while moo was cleaning up the kitchen later that afternoon, ready to tear all the meat off that turkey breast - the skies had turned dark, and the winds were howling...  and then kabaam!

    the power went out.

usually they flicker back on in a second, right?  one second, two seconds...  standing in the complete DARKNESS, ok, maybe I need to find a flashlight.  grabbed one from the kitchen drawer and went to light a couple candles.   peeked out the front window - the whole street is dark.  can't believe how still and quiet everything seems when the power is completely out.  no hum from the fridge. no digital clock numbers. no little on/off lights.

so I went to wake B up just long enough to make sure who to call (BG&E) and he fell back asleep.  called it in then plopped down in the living room with two candles and a flashlight and perused two cooking magazines.  then got hungry so ate a little snack in the kitchen. then tried to make a 'to-do' list. then felt so bored went to try to wake B up again.  while he was trying to talk to me in a delirious state of mind --(was asking me if I discharged a patient home and seemed really frustrated that he couldn't explain something...  later realized that when I told him earlier about the power outage, it worked itself into his dreams - and they had to transport all their patients to a boat because of the power problem!)  the power came back on, about 90 minutes after they went out...

so that was my little Thanksgiving adventure.

  • Thanksgiving is less than a week away!    When my brother and I (MOO) were in elementary school, all of my dad's side of the family got together for reunions every Thanksgiving.  (have I written about this before???)  At that time, my grandparents were in Atlanta, one uncle in Illinois, another uncle in Ohio, and us in Maryland...  so we rotated houses every year, and we had my grandpa and grandma, their 5 children and spouses, and their 10 children all in one location.   Granted, some years certain people couldn't make it...  but it was FUN!

We even continued as cousins went to college, graduated and got married...  because my grandparents were pretty healthy, but a few years ago we stopped, and then my grandpa passed away June 06...  so I guess we never really had a big reunion with greatgrandchildren until his funeral.

These days families aren't so big anymore (except a few pastoral ones... haha) but as everyone grows up, I'm sure it will be a big blessing -   anyway, our thanksgiving will be cozy.  We'll wait til New Year's to have our own small family reunion.

  • This past weekend, B had Saturday off (and worked Sunday)  so I went to church by myself, but after a fun Saturday afternoon excursion...

We needed to get some exercise, and thought we would go find a park to take a walk at...  but then I thought about showing B my college campus!  UMBC, smaller (alas a Retriever and not a Terrapin) and farther (lived on campus, not at home) than College Park.  So we took our first peek by driving around Hilltop Circle, encompassing the main portion of the school and noticed several new buildings...  and many just the same!  strolled through the classroom buildings down to the library...  which didn't take very long, so I guess it didn't turn out to be much of a walk -

Then I thought I'd test my memory to see if I could use the back roads to get over to Route 40 where there are various food establishments, including some Korean places.  From what I remembered, it should've only taken 10 minutes or so.  The first few turns were familiar, but then a traffic circle came up and I decided to go westward...  Well, after 5 min or so, things weren't looking right, but we ended up in HISTORIC ELLICOTT CITY!

It's a very quaint town, with antique shops and art galleries and small pricey restaurants...  So we took another stroll and found a more reasonable 'bistro' to have dinner -

You order at the counter, but they even served wine and gourmet-y dishes, like old-bay spiced shrimp pizza...PA270681 PA270679

We held back from ordering dessert...  only to start walking back towards the car and passing by an incredibly aromatic cafe...  had to go in and can you have coffee after dinner without something to go with it??????

we are waiting for our piece of chocolate ribbon cheesecake.  i also ended up with a chai tea instead of a decaf cafe au lait, but didn't say anything because it was really yummy.....  i wondered who ended up drinking coffee thinking it was chai!   haha.

And speaking of yummy food, B made this delicious meal for me last week!  It was wonderful!  Chicken tenders crusted in pistachios, broccoli sauteed with lemon, garlic, and onion, and brown rice...

  • So even though B had to go to work on Saturday...  we got to host Oikos at our place in ol' beautiful Laurel.  We were hoping traffic would be better Saturday than Friday, but it just had to be MD's homecoming against UVA and people were stuck on 495...

but like we promised, we had our fill of atomic and nuclear Cluck-U, introduced everyone to Cincinnati chili, and had a sampling of homemade ginger limeade      the 8 of us fit around our kitchen table, and talked and laughed and then we did gather in the living room to discuss P. Mo's sermon last Sunday.   We're glad everyone came out and will make our best efforts to get to Frederick when our turn comes...

After church today, ended up catching dinner in Rockville and then saw this movie - maybe wasn't the best thing to watch on a Sunday afternoon...  but was very well done...  i ended up crying here and there and B kept looking at me b/c i guess i haven't really cried that much in movies with him, but then i don't think we've watched many heart-wrenching dramas together...
